GAMIN’ WITH GABE: Nintendo delivers a breath of fresh air with “Zelda: Breath of the Wild”

GABE TOWNSEND

The Legend of Zelda game series is primarily developed by Nintendo and is one of the most iconic game series of all time. The series has released some of the most popular games in gaming history. This includes Nintendo’s latest release, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Breath of the wild has you play as the all popular Link in a devastated Hyrule Kingdom put up to fight against Ganon once again. The game is visually stunning with a beautiful design, The gameplay is perfectly fun, there is always something to do, and this game serves as an amazing start for the release of the Nintendo Switch.

I’ve spent countless hours running around the phenomenally large and content packed world collecting new weapons, customizing my character, doing quests, finding secrets, fighting all kinds of enemies and just having the time of my life. Literally every item you run into has a purpose. From sticks and rocks to apples and steak. The game mechanics have so much detail and thought. For example, if you hold a metal weapon in a thunderstorm there is a chance you will get struck by lightning. Throw your weapon on the ground for an enemy to pick up and they will get stuck by lightning. There are countless weapons to find and collect with different statistics and unique abilities like setting your enemy on fire and pushing the enemy away with wind.

The combat is pretty detailed and doesn’t ever really seem glitchy or done wrong. Archery has a lot bigger of a role this time around and it’s honestly one of my favorite things. Ranged weapons play a lot bigger of a role overall. While past Zelda games had ranged weaponry it was always hard to control and never really felt anywear as effective as using your sword. Another thing I liked about the game play is the glider. You can glide all around the map making it an easier and faster way to travel. Temperature is a factor in the game to look out for as well. When in cold areas of the map you need to wear something to keep you warm and when in hotter areas you need wear something to keep you cool.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is going down is history as one of the greatest games ever created. This is personally the greatest game I have ever played and after a year of pretty average video games this is exactly what gamers needed.
