TRAILER WATCH: DC looks to save struggling cinematic universe with “Wonder Woman”

ROMAN TYLER

This year DC Comics will be continuing their series of films in the DC cinematic universe with Wonder Woman, and on Saturday they released the “Origins” trailer for the movie to provide a peek into the titular hero Wonder Woman’s origin story. As far as I can tell it’s just a summary of the first 30 or so minutes of the movie, which while not as atrocious as the Batman v. Superman trailer that spoiled the entire movie still seems somewhat unnecessary and counter intuitive to experiencing the story for the first time in theaters. DC has a lot to make up for after their string of awful comic book movies, and Wonder Woman just doesn’t look like it’s gonna be the amazing record breaker DC needs right now. That being said it looks like it may not be as awful as previous attempts, looking at the trailer there seems to be at least a little color in this one, and DC is taking a step in the right direction by not letting Zack Snyder direct (although he is a producer and writer on it). However, if DC wants to compete with the Marvel cinematic universe’s great record they will have to seriously step up with Wonder Woman and the other movies leading up to the Justice League movie.
