JACK ROSETTI

Roseville High School students showed off their plethora of skills at the talent show last night. Students performed a variety of acts, from playing piano to a comedic illusion routine.

I found myself in awe of the courage and raw talent of some of my fellow classmates; I never knew they had so much skill in their respective acts. Specifically, sophomore pianist Gyer Martinez blew me away. His routine was flawless: He sounded like a professional pianist.

Martinez was not the only music-based performance, though. In fact, only one performance didn’t involve music in some way. For this, I found the routine – a comedic “illusionist” – to be my favorite. It was a fresh routine that actually made me laugh.

A singer/guitarist, Ashlie Amaral, won the entire competition, and for good reason. She put a country spin on a rock song and played it with perfection. Mixed with her soothing vocals, I understand why she won the entire thing.

Two bands, Fat Tuna and Hard Charm, also performed songs. Both had their respective genres of music – Fat Tuna played a rock song and Hard Charm performed a quartet-style pop song – that I enjoyed. The guitarists of Fat Tuna impressed me the most. However, one individual played an instrument for both bands, which also surprised me because he did it so well.

The returning winner, Addie Panasiuk, dazzled everyone with her speed-painted picture of Michael Jackson, while “Bad” played in the background. Yeah, she painted an entire picture of the king himself in less than four minutes.

The MCs seemed unprepared, sadly. Previous MCs cancelled abruptly and, subsequently, two new people stepped up to the plate. I appreciate their ambition to fill in for the cancelled MC, however some preparation would have shown.
