The varsity volleyball team took on the Yuba City Honkers at home for the first round of playoffs, beating them in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-13, respectively.

Coach Cindy Simon believes that the home-court advantage played a key role in the Tigers’ breaking their string of first-round playoff exits.

“Since I’ve been at Roseville I feel like the girls program had a really hard time making it past that first round so to have a home match was huge,” Simon said. “I think dropping down to division two this year was a big advantage for us, too. Last year we were in division one against Saint Francis.”

Simon felt that the team’s playoff experience from last year, with seven returning seniors, helped them accomplish their goal of winning this first round playoff game.

“If we play our tempo of the game and our starters are on, we have the potential to go all the way to sections,” Simon said.

The team takes on the Rocklin Thunder tomorrow night for the second round of playoffs, playing at Rocklin’s home court.
